As I sit down to write this intro, without thinking I grab some sweet smelling citrus hand cream, lather it on my hands while I look out the window before I start typing. It seems like such a silly habit, but whether its the simple action or the deep inhale I take to soak up the scent, it relaxes me. It is one of many little habits (along with an excessive amount of tea drinking) that we have picked up in our daily lives in the studio. Small but important rituals to keep us sane amongst what seems like an often whirlwind of unexpected tasks and challenges.
The Organic Project, an Australian online store, seems to be aimed directly at our tea guzzling, therapeutic/OCD hand-moisturising selves! Created with a very similar ethos to ALAS, TOP encourages people to take time out and treat themselves, organically. Understanding the importance of clean, chemical free living, the store offers an abundance of wonderfully smelling, cleansing and nourishing products that soothe your body and mind naturally. Hear how Josh Culnane, founder of TOP keeps a clear mind for a healthy life.....
What inspired you to start TOP?
I love to keep fit and healthy and after travelling around the U.S. I realised Australia has some of the best natural and organic products in the world, so I wanted to showcase these emerging brands and present them in an exciting and sophisticated way. I also wanted to create a socially conscious business. One that empowers the consumer when they purchase these incredible Australian products.
What motivates you?
Creating a life that I can look back upon with a really big smile.
How do you keep a balanced life?
Running and surfing. These two things keep me centred, fit and healthy.
Some key tips to practicing meditation?
Making it a routine practice everyday. For me it's 15 minutes every morning, just after my exercise and before my breakfast.
Can you tell us about the benefits of meditation?
It optimises my mind and energy levels for the day ahead and provides a huge return on investment and helps me make better decisions throughout the whole day ahead.
Why is organic important to you?
Our bodies weren't designed to be bombarded by chemicals either inside or out, therefore using only organic or natural compounds is vital to our health, wellbeing and longevity. It's great to see so many people now embracing this exciting movement.
Best the piece of advice has been most helpful in your life?
You create your own luck. No one else is going to do it for you.
